Why Colorado decks need staining every 2–3 years

High-altitude UV grays out bare wood fast, and snow sitting on a deck all winter drives water into the boards. A good stain-and-seal job stops both. Skip it and you are replacing boards instead of staining them.

Deck and fence staining process

• Power wash to strip dirt, mildew and failed stain
• Let the wood dry fully — stain on damp wood peels
• Sand rough boards and rails; replace split or rotted boards
• Apply penetrating stain or solid-color stain, your choice of tone
• Seal and keep you off it until it cures
